Objectives

  • Computer takes a major part in the knowledge revolution.

  • Changing pattern of Commerce Education needs extensive use of Computers.

  • Now a days, computers are used extensively in the field of Business, Commerce, Manufacturing, day to day functioning of office and in Decision-Making process in the Corporate Sector.

  • To excel the academic standards, provide quality education and maximum exposure to IT is the main objective of our department.

Brief History Of The Department

  • Computer Department (Commerce Stream) was established in the year 1997-98 with 50 students.

  • Thrust Area : T.Y.B.Com.(Computer - Elective)

Curriculum

Curriculum highlights a wide exposure to theory and application of computer usage such as -
  • Netware and Internet

  • E-Commerce

  • Word Processing

  • Spread sheet Package

  • Programming Language such as C-Programming

  • MySQL (RDBMS) – Back End

  • Visual Basic – Front End

Depending upon the needs, the curriculum development is effected through appropriate modifications.

New Syllabus has come into effect from the year 2009-10.

Lectures are conducted in two ways : class room Learning and Hands on Iraining in Computer Lab.

Classroom Learning

  • In – Depth coverage:

    • Topics are covered in depth with sufficient examples and illustrations using chalk and talk method.

  • Inter–active :

    • The students are encouraged to ask questions to clear their doubts.

    • Notes, if required, are given to the students.

    • Previous Year University Questions from the topic are discussed in the classroom.

    • Students are also encouraged to clear their doubts outside the classroom, in case of time constraint.

Practicl Training

  • Demo :
    Demonstrations are given to the students on topics, which require practical guidelines with the help of a computer and L.C.D. / Overhead Projector.

  • Assignments :
    The students are given practical assignments, which they solve on-line i.e. on the computer. The Professor and a Lab Assistant are present in the Computer Lab to help the students overcome any difficulties.

  • Individual Attention
    Attention is given to each student to clear doubts and answer queries, if any.

The students are given extra practice time in the Lab, if they require.

  • Tests (Theory) : 1 Prelim ( 60 Marks )

  • Assignment (10 Marks) , Conduct ( 10 Marks )

    Students are required to maintain the record of all the solved assignments in a journal which is checked by the professor

  • Practical Examination (20 Marks )
    As per the syllabus of TYBCom(Computer Stream) of University of Mumbai, the Computer Department conducts Practical Examination for 20 marks in the Computer Lab every year.
