Human Rights Education

With the objectives such as creating social awareness, personality development and awareness about the human rights, A certificate course in the subject of Human Rights and Duties was started from the academic year 2009-2010.

In one year certificate course following topics were framed for syllabus

  • Concept of Human Rights

  • Collective Rights

  • India and International Covenants

  • Human Rights Commission in India

  • Human Rights in India

  • Human Rights and NGOs

  • Practical such as moot court, debates, discussions, letter drafting, etc.

Students participated in the course, attended the lectures every week and appeared for the final examination conducted at the end of the year. Besides the theory lectures students were also benefited of guest lectures, practical sessions, topic presentations, day celebrations, etc.

  • 1. Guest lecture on Consumer Awareness
    On 29th September 2010, the cell organised a guest lecture on 'consumer awareness'. In the lecture Mr. Pravin Meshram , Chairman , Mira-Bhayandar Consumer Protection Council guided the students about the consumers' rights to protect the consumer interest.

  • 2. World Human Rights Day
    On 10th December 2010 the cell celebrated the World Human Rights Day. Students of the cell presented a street play about the awareness of Human Rights by going into every classroom. They also presented a street play in collaboration with the NSS unit.
    The motto behind the activity was to create awareness about basic human rights and importance of celebration of 'Human Rights Day' among the students.

  • 3. Guest lecture
    On 3rd December 2010, Prof. Bhagwat, In-charge of Pramila Institute of Administrative Career delivered a lecture on 'How to Cope- up With the Competitive Examinations' with reference to the history of human rights.

  • 4. Essay writing competition
    On 4th December 2010, on the occasion of Global Human Rights Week the cell organised essay writing competition on the topic of human rights. The aim was to test the knowledge of students of human rights. Students voluntarily participated in the competition. The best essays were awarded with trophies and certificates.

  • 5. Speak-up' an inter-collegiate event
    On 13th January 2011, 'speak-up' an inter-collegiate event was organised in the collaboration with Women Development Cell of the college and MAJLIS legal centre. In the event students were given two topics and expected to speak for five minutes on any one topic. The judges were called from outside the college.
    The topics were
    1. Section 493 A Boon or Bane
    2. Indian Men Polygamy
    Large number of students voluntarily participated in the event and they were awarded with 1st and 2nd rank. The participation certificates were sponsored by MAJLIS legal centre.

  • 6. Final examination
    The activities ended with the final written examination conducted on 27th January 2011. All the passed students were allotted the certificates of the course.
