Launched in the Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary year 1969, as a student youth service programmer National Service Scheme (NSS)aims at arousing social consciousness of the youth with an overall objective of personality development of the students through community service.

N.S.S. REPORT 2016-17

Three units are alloted by the NSS cell, University of Mumbai, Mumbai for the academic year 2016-17. Two units are alloted to Arts and Commerce stream and one unit for self finance courses. In this manner 300 volunteers for three units are enrolled with three Programme Officer i.e. Dr. Surekha B. Mishra, Asst. Prof. Sunil A. Dhapse, Asst. Prof. Chandrakant Khune.

The programme officers attended planning session organized by NSS cell, University of Mumbai, Mumbai on 27th June 2016. As per the guidelines of the NSS, a working committee and an advisory committee are consituted to help and monitor the activities of NSS units. The NSS calendar of our college NSS unit is also framed as per the guideline of NSS cell, University of Mumbai. The calendar got approved in advisory committee meeting on 30th June 2016 and there onwards it’s implemented in practice.

The activities conducted during the year are explained as follows:
  • International Yoga Day (21st June 2016)
    The college NSS unit has decided to celebrate the international yoga day on 21st June 2016 by organising workshop on Yoga Awareness and importance of Yoga for the development of personality. The yoga guru ‘Kshamanath Dubey' has chaired this workshop and enriched the students with Yoga. Around 100 participant were present for this activity.

  • Orientation programme (5th August 2016)
    Motivational lecturte and orientation programs are one of the importnat activities to guide and motivate the NSS volunteers. Such programs were aarranged rgularly in every academic year, and the volunteers gained knowledge of activites and social work being carried out.
    On 5th August the N.S.S. P.O. Prof. Sunil Dhapse and Dr. Surekha Mishra have conducted orientation program for N.S.S. vol.to make them aware about N.S.S. unit and Its activities,& also future plan is discussed with them.
    On this occasion, to motivate the fresh NSS volunteers, we felicitated the best NSS volunteers for the year 2015-16. We felicitated two best NSS volunteers, one girl and one boy for the year 2015-16.

  • Voter ID Project (22th June 2016 to 16th August 2016)
    This project has been started with the inangral function headed by Shri Achut Hange, commissionor of Mira-Bhayander & Mr. Harish Patil secretary, MBMC. On that occasion commissioner has awaire the students of college for making voter Id and procedure of maleing it on 22nd June 2016. The activites of collecting application for voter id card has been conducted by NSS volentery of our unit. On 25th July, 2016 1st phase distribution of voter Id had been conducted for which 145 constitutency’s Tahashildar Mr. Vinod Gosavi & Nayal Tahasildar Mr. Jayesh Pandit as well as 146 constitutencies Nayab Tahasildar Smital Yadav distributed the voter Id card to those applicant. The 2nd phase of voter Id distribution held on 16th August 2016 as per the schedule of Election Commission of State Government.

  • Environment Protection Project:

    • Tree plantation (1st July 2016)
      The NSS Unit of our college planted trees on 1st July 2016 on college campus and Mira-Bhayander Muncipal Corporation ground. In which the Principal, Management, NSS Volunteers, teaching non-teaching staff has participated.
      3000 plants are planted at Manori, Palghar on the same day. This Program was Organised by Lions Club.
      On the occasion of 159th university foundation day , our principal planted Banyan trees in our college campus.

    • 8th Mega monsoon marathon (21th August 2016)
      On 21th August 2016 NSS Unit organized ‘8th MEGA MONSOON MARATHON’ to create awareness about global warming were 7723 students of Mumbai university affiliated colleges participated in it and winners have been awarded by trophies & cash prizes. This activity fulfill its objective of creating awareness of global warming at Mira-Bhayander locality.

    • Anti-Plastic Movement (24th September 2016)
      We organized Anti Plastic Campaign on 24th Sept 2016. The NSS Volunteers and POs distributed Cotton bags to the college students to aware them about anti plastic drive and not to use plastic bags.

    • Tourism Awareness (23rd July 2016)
      NSS unit organized eco tourism awareness tour to Ghodbunder fort, Ghodbunder, Mira Road (E.). Around 60 volunteers were participated in it. They visited the place and tried to clean the fort area as well as get aware to nearest to college eco-tourism place.

  • Health & Hygiene Project:
    NSS unit and Wockhardt Hospital, Mira road (east) jointly organized medical check-up camp on 15th July, 2016 in college campus. The specialists Dermatologist, Psychiatrist, ENT specialist and physician of Wockhardt Hospital examined and suggested medication to the students and others. The beneficiaries of the camp were as

    • Hemoglobin check-up camp (26th July 2016)
      On 26-07-2016, Hemoglobin check-up camp was organized for girls students. Dr. Chakor and his staff from Mira Bhayandar of municipal hospital were called to conduct this camp .Around 103 girl students undergone with haemoglobin test.

    • Blood donation camp (27th July 2016)
      On 27th July 2016 we organize blood donation camp at college campus with collaboration of J.J. Hospital and Nair blood bank around 189 bags of blood has been collected, more than 200 vol. are actively worked in this mega blood donation camp.

    • Women Health & Safety Project (27th August 2016)
      On 27th August 2016 with the support of Wockhardt Hospital, we organized the workshop for all the ages of women for the health and safety of women. The volunteers of NSS as well as Mira Bhayander local people were participated in it. The general physician Dr. Aditi Agarwal has aware the audience about various kinds of surgery as well as Dr. SarikaChandawalkar, gynecologist has explained about the fertility of women. All the participant got lot of information about health & safety of girls and women.

    • Organ donation awareness (30th August 2016)
      State govt and NSS jointly organized Mega Organ Donation campaign held on 30th August 2016. It was a wakethon organized in central Mumbai at nariman point area. Our 15 volunteers participated in it. One decision can give seven person life is the message spread in this walkathon. Chief minister shriDevendraFadnavish, medical education and water resources minister Mr. Girish Mahajan, J.J. hospitals eye donation chief Dr. Ragini Parekh were present at that occasion.

    • Mega Health Talk series (26th Feb 2017)
      With the support of Wockhardt Hospital, the mega Health Talk Series had been organized at maxmall, Bhayander (W) for Mira-Bhayander public. The people got aware about health issues by expert doctors of that particular field.

    On 9th Jan 2017, we organized road safety awareness workshop with collaboration of NGO “United for road safety” specially for Biker students of our college. It was composed of counseling and practical training about smooth running of bike. Around 55 biker students participated in it.

  • Publicity Week (24th Sept to 2nd Oct 2016):
    All 300 volunteers of NSS unit by wearing the t-shirts of NSS, provided by the NSS unit present in college, draw the Rangoli of NSS badge, did passing of social messages class to class, on the occasion of Publicity week on different social issues to create awareness among all the students. They stand in chain on college ground and took oath ‘Not Me But You’. This is how we tried to create awareness among the students of college all about NSS. We organized various activities during the publicity week, they are as follows,

    • NSS Day Celebration (24th Sept 2016)
      As well as we organized Anti Plastic Campaign on 24th Sept 2016. The NSS Volunteers and POs distributed Cotton bags to students to aware them about anti plastic drive and not to use plastic bags.

      NSS Unit displays the message about- National Integration on Compound walls of college and tried to spread the message of it.

    • Organ Donation (29th Sept 2016)
      We organized a workshop on organ donation awareness on 29th September 2016 to pass the message of “One decision can give seven person life” to all the students. Around 200 students attended this workshop.

    • Peace & Non-violence (30th Sept 2016)
      We organized essay writing competition on 30th Sept 2016 on the topic of “piece and non-violence”. 132 students had been participated in it.

    • Gender Sensitization (1st Oct 2016)
      On 1st October 2016, we organized a workshop with the Women Development Cell of Our on Gender Sensitization. Around 300 students were participated in it.

    • Gandhi Jayanti Celebration (2nd Oct 2016)
      On 2nd October, 2016 we celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with Worshiping Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi by obeying flowers and lightening the candles.

  • 7 Days Residential Camp (17th Oct to 23rd Oct 2016):
    17th Oct to 23rd Oct, 2016, we organised special residential camp with 120 volunteers and 3 Programme Officer to Valenkanni Church, Bhatebunder, Uttan, Bhayander (W), Thane, with aim of cleanliness campaign and awareness of swachh Bharat abhiyan to the rural areas.
    The camp was inaugurated by father Hileary, who inspired the volunteers to do their best for the nation. The volunteers cleaned the camp site during those 7 days, as well as cleaned the beach time to time. They involved in cleanliness campaign by the way of rally, street play & councelling. The afternoon session of camp was completely of intellectual sessions of various expert of different stream impart of knowledge to campers.
    So the special camp was social cum personal development oriented for the campers.

  • Disaster Management Training (19th & 20th Oct 2016)
    Two days disaster management Training Programme was organised to train the NSS volunteers by the ‘Avhan’ participated and trained NSS volunteers were the trainer for giving the training to others.
    Mr. Ashwin Tiwari & Mr. Kishan Makad (Ex. NSS Vol.) had chaired this training programme and successfully completed this programme.

  • Survey on Pant Pradhan Awas Yojana (21st Dec 2016 to 5th Jan 2017)
    From 21st Dec 2016 to 5st Jan, 2017, under the central govt. scheme, our college with collaboration of Mira Bhayander mahanagar Palika, we collected the data from rural area Rai chawl, Murdha chawl, Dongri, regarding the pant pradhan aawas yojna and submitted that collected data to concerned authority. Around 90 volunteers participated in this survey.

  • Aid Camp (17th July 2016)
    Every year NSS unit organizes Aid camp for needy tribal area. In this year we have organized Aid Camp on 17th JULY 2016 at , Adiwasi Ashram School Malodi, Kaman, where we distributed cloths, toys, stationery, eatables and alike to the needy people. For this program along with vol., Principal Dr. V.N. Yadav, Chairman of the Institution Shri. RohidasjiPatil and Secretary Shri. Maheshji Mhatre gave visit to this area and made the program worthy.

  • Pulse Polio Drive
    During the academic year 2016-17, NSS volunteers fully supported to Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation for every pulse polio drive, it was conducted there in a year.

  • N.S.S. Yearly Report (2015-16)

      N.S.S Cell, Mumbai University allotted Three Units to our college for the Year 2015-16.This year we allotted two units for Arts and Commerce and one unit for Self Finance Courses. In this manner 300 Volunteers for three units are enrolled.

    • Participation in “World Yoga Day” (21st June, 2015)
      The college NSS unit has decided to celebrate the international Yoga Day on 21st June for the academic year 2015-16. As per the plan we did the publicity of it through notice and mouth publicity. We informed all the interested people to come in college auditorium at 9:00 am to participate on Yoga Day. Mr. K. D. Bora, a Yoga Trainer was invited on that day to conduct the Yoga.

      On 21st June 2015, Sunday, students, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers as well as teaching and non teaching staff were present at 9:00 am in auditorium of the college. Shri Rohidasji Patil graced the occasion by lightening the lamp and inaugurated the yoga session. Mr. K.D. Bora has started the yoga session with prayer and conducted various asanas like Vajrasans, Padmasan Dhanuvrasan etc which are useful for human beings to get relief from stress. It was 2 hours session. 70 participants were present for those activities.

    • Haemoglobin Check-up camp (1st July, 2015)
      On 1st July, 2015, Haemoglobin Check-up camp was organised only for female students at free of cost. Dr. Chakor and his Staff from Mira Bhayandar Municipal Hospital were called to conduct the camp. Around 231 female students took the Haemoglobin test.

      Around 20 NSS students Volunteers shared responsibility for this camp.

    • Seminar on Lungs cancer (17th July, 2015)
      67th Independence Day on 15th August 2015, was distinctly celebrated peacefully by NSS unit. On 17th July, 2015, Seminar on lungs cancer prevention and treatment of common skin condition as well as hair problem was organised for students. The seminar through PPT disseminated information and knowledge to the students about various skin diseases, causes for Hair loss, Cigarette smoking and its ill effects on health; and Causes and Consequences of stress. The Speakers in this programme were Dr. Bhavin Parmar, Dr. Thakkar and Dr. Neepa Vellimuttam from Wockhardt Hospital. 170 Students attended the seminar and 20 Volunteers managed this programme successfully.

    • Workshop on Healthy food for healthy living (21st July, 2015)
      NSS unit organised a workshop on Healthy food for healthy living on 21st July, 2015. Dr. Veena Pai was the speaker in the workshop. The workshop was for the awareness to young youth for having the healthy food for living a healthy life.

    • Seminar on Today’s Women and their Fitness (23rd July, 2015)
      NSS Unit and NGO- Siddlife jointly organised seminar on “Today’s Women & their Fitness – Awareness and Counselling” on 23rd July, 2015. Dr. Swapnali Joshi and Dr. Kaustubh Kulkarni from Siddlife were the speakers for the aforesaid seminar.

      Dr. Joshi introduced commonly encountered medical condition PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and its causes. Dr. Kulkarni threw light on consequential stress and depression due to PCOS which lead to serious psychological problems amongst young girls. Further he explained how to tackle this issue with dignity and pride. He talked on supportive measures to overcome stress and depression in the management of PCOS.

      All the programmes of Cell are successfully held with the support of all the members of Counselling Cell, N.S.S. P.O. and all the faculties of the college.

    • Tourism Awareness (25th July, 2015)
      On 25th July, 2015 One Day Educational Trip at Murud Janjira, one of the ancient historical places in Maharashtra was organised by NSS Unit under the guidance of NSS Tourism Cell, University of Mumbai. Around 200 Volunteer with 03 NSS Programme Officer participated in this trip.

      It has created awareness about ancient historical monuments and tourism opportunities among the youth.

    • Planning session (27th July, 2015)
      The P.O. attended planning session organized by N.S.S. cell, Mumbai University, Mumbai on 27th July, 2015. As per the plan and calendar of N.S.S. cell, Mumbai University, we framed activities and programmes of our N.S.S unit for the year 2015-16.

    • Blood donation camp (29th July, 2015)
      On 29th July, 2015, we organized Mega blood donation camp in college campus in collaboration with J.J. And Nair Hospital Blood Banks. Around 350 bags of blood have been collected in the camp. 150 N.S.S. Volunteers have worked for this Mega Blood Donation Camp.

    • Tree Plantation (31st July, 2015)
      The NSS Volunteers planted 100 trees on the open space of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation ground. 35 volunteers and NSS P.O. participated in this programme.

    • Healthon Rally (15th August, 2015)
      67th Independence Day on 15th August 2015, was celebrated by NSS unit. NSS unit and Wockhardt Hospital bonded together and organised rally ‘To get in health, fit and prosperous society’. This rally started from Wockhardt Hospital with around 200 volunteers wearing T-shirts with a message walked on roads of Mira Bhayandar. Distributed Booklets based on precautionary measures, preventive medicines, diets, exercises etc. throughout the rally. It was around 8 Kilometer’s walk to create awareness. Participation certificates were distributed to all the volunteers participated in the Rally. The rally was dispersed with refreshment.

    • District Level Residential Leadership Training Camp (22nd August to 26th August, 2015)
      One Female and Two Male NSS volunteers were sent for District Level Residential Leadership Training Camp at Viva College, Virar (West).

    • SRD/NRD & Utkarsh Pre-Selection Camp (28th August, 2015)
      Four NSS volunteers participated in SRD/NRD & Utkarsh Pre-Selection Camp, Sonopanth Dandekar College, Palghar (West).

    • Traffic Control (23rd September & 27th September, 2015)
      On 23rd & 27th September, 2014 during Ganpati immersion 120 volunteers supported to Mira-Bhayandar Traffic Police in controlling traffic and Mob at Jesal Park Khadi.

    • N.S.S. Publicity Week (24th September to 2nd October, 2015)
      As per the direction of state liaison officer, NSS, Govt. of Maharashtra, the NSS unit organised various activities during those days are explained as follows.

    • NSS Day Celebration (24th Sept, 2015)
      All 300 volunteers of NSS unit by wearing the t-shirts of NSS, provided by the NSS unit presence in college, draw the Rangoli of NSS badge, did pass a social messages class to class, on that day on different social issues to create awareness among all the students. They stood in chain on college ground and took oath ‘Not Me But You’. This is how we tried to create awareness among the students of college all about NSS.

    • Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (25th Sept, 2015)
      The volunteers of NSS cleaned the campus and conducted the rally in Mira-Bhayandar areas, put on the message on college compound wall to spread the message of Cleanliness and took oath to make Mira-Bhayandar clean in coming year.

    • Awareness Campaign (26th Sept, 2015)
      With the support of Shape India (NGO), NSS unit organised one day workshop on AIDS awareness in college for the students of S.Y.B.com. Mr. Nikhil Jogdand and his team has taken initiative to communicate with students in workshop: How to Protect our self from AIDS.

    • Awareness on Road Safety (28th Sept, 2015)
      The volunteers with placards stand in college campus as well as on roads to spread the message of Road Safety among the students as well as among the public of Mira-Bhayandar.

    • Health & Hygiene (29th Sept, 2015)
      The volunteers visited the slum area near the college, it is our adopted area for NSS and tried to convince people about Health & Hygiene as like diseases Malaria, Dengue, typhoid, Jaundice etc. Also we took support of Local Health center.

    • Awareness Campaign (30th Sept, 2015)
      NSS Unit displays the message about- National Integration on Compound walls of college and tried to spread the same.

    • Rally on Anti-Drug/Liquor/ Tobacco (1st Oct, 2015)
      The volunteers with three Programme Officers organised rally regard Anti-Drug/ Liquor/ Tobacco in Mira-Bhayandar area to spread the awareness.

    • Gandhi Jayanti (2nd & 3rd Oct, 2015)
      The NSS unit has participated in Bhajan Sandhya organised by NSS cell, University of Mumbai at Gateway, Colaba on 2nd October, 2015.
      On 3rd October, 2015 we celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with Worshiping Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi by offering flowers and lightening the candles.

    • Community upliftment programme (17th October, 2015 )
      We have supported to Lions Club of Mira-Bhayandar in celebrating ShubhMahotsav with Orphans students and Old Age Home People.

    • Support to college activity (27th & 28th November, 2015)
      On 27th and 28th Nov. 2015, NSS unit supported to “Akhil Maharashtra Itihas Parishad”

    • Residential Camp (01st December, 2015 to 07th December, 2015)
      From 1st Dec. to 7th Dec., 2015 the unit organised special camp with 140 volunteers to Ganeshpuri for constructing the vanrai bandhare. These bandhares were constructed under the guidance and support of Thane Gramin Jila Parishad.

    • Aids Awareness Week (01st December, 2015 to 06th December, 2015 )
      The red ribbon club of N.S.S. unit have aids awareness week from 1st Dec. to 6th Dec. 2015.the details are as follows:

      On 27th July, 2015. The Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University felicitated the unit, The P.O. & The volunteer for their award.

    • Participation at Inter-collegiate level
      The Maximum volunteers of NSS participated in “Brahma” Inter-collegiate event organised by Abhinav college, Bhayander (E) and bagged the maximum participation trophy. The volunteers participated in sports and cultural events.

    • Disaster Management Training (16th & 17th February, 2016)
      Two days disaster management Training Programme was organised to train the NSS volunteers who are participated and trained at ‘Avhan’ state level disaster Training programme were the trainer for giving the training to others.

    • Pulse Polio Drive
      During the academic year 2015-16, NSS volunteers fully supported to Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation for every pulse polio drive, it was conducted there in a year.

    • Anti – Plastic Drive
      On the occasion of Maha shivratri on 7th march, 2015. N.S.S. volunteers distributed Cotton bags to the devotees who arrived at Tungareshwar Temple. In this Camping around 26 N.S.S. volunteer participated. And other volunteer involved in mob – controlling and other maintaining discipline in the temple and its vicinity. Around 45 N.S.S. volunteer involved in this activity.

    • Survey
      Thane Jila Parishad has given us responsibility to Conduct the Survey at Mira – Bhayandar & to Support Mira – Bhayandar Nagarpalika to get the appropriate data about children out of school in this area.

      Around so Volunteer of our college involved in this Survey they went door on allotted areas of Mira – Bhayandar like Indrolok , Kashimira & Talav Road and Collected the information above out of School Children
