Shankar Narayan Junior College is a perfect stepping stone to the Shankar Narayan Degree College of Arts & Commerce. The Junior College which is permanently unaided is Alma – mater to thousands of students since its establishment. It has 12 divisions in Arts, Commerce & Science faculties for first year and 11 divisions in Arts, Commerce & Science faculties for second year, making up a total of whopping 23 divisions of approximately 3000 students. Our students have made us proud at the HSC exam conducted in the academic year 2009-2010, the science division had a perfect 100% passing percentage, the commerce division had approximately 84% and the arts had 52% pass percentage.

We have students coming from Bandra to Virar suburban area. It is by no coincident that during admission to FYJC cut off to the Science stopped at 70% and Commerce at 50%. Our college imparts the best of education to the students. Our teaching faculties are well trained and well experienced Board Examiners. Students securing good marks in the Board Exam is the motto of each Faculty. Students are encouraged to ask questions and teachers are often seen solving doubts of the students in the library.

S. N. Junior college is not only believes in academic excellence, but also believes in all round development of the students. Along with academic works, the Junior college holds several cultural, literary and sports events. Cultural competitions encouraging student’s talent are held. They are also sent to inter-collegiate festivals where they have done the college proud by winning laurels. Notable prizes are awarded for Drama, Folk Dances and Fashion shows in events like the Mira – Bhayandar Kala Krida Mahotsav and Keshav Shrishti Festival.

Sports too have an important part in the college activities. Apart from a sports week, the students playing not just for the inevitable Cricket but also Indian games like Kabaddi & Kho-kho with full zest and enthusiasm. Last year our Junior College reached the state level in Throw Ball (Under 18 girls).

The more literary students are encouraged to take part in competitions like Debates and Quiz. They also write articles for our in-house college magazine “Vinay”.

GENERAL RULES

  • A student who has passed the S.S.C. examination under the 10+2+3 pattern conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Mumbai hereinafter called ‘The Board’ or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto by the Board is eligible for admission to the F.Y.J.C. in Arts, Science and Commerce.
  • Admission for XI Classes will strictly be given on merit basis and as per the rules and regulations of the Government of Maharashtra. For admission to F.Y.J.C. Science, students must have scored at least 40% marks in the science subjects at the S.S.C. Examination. Forms accepted for the preparation of the merit list does not mean that their admission is confirmed.
  • Seats are reserved for backward class candidates as per the rules. Separate arrangement for accepting XI Classes admission forms will be made. Open Category candidates should submit their forms at the Open category counter and B.C. students i.e. SC / ST / DT / NT / OBC / SBC etc. should submit their forms at the Backward Class counter. Application of B.C. candidates submitted in open category candidates counter will not be considered.
  • The merit list will be displayed on the Notice Board. Those names appearing in the merit list should take admission on the prescribed date and time, failing which they will lose their claim to admission.
  • For admission to the F.Y.J.C. class it is essential for the student to produce the following documents in original, together with two attested copies of each :
    • Statement of Marks of S.S.C.
    • School Leaving Certificate.
    • 3 recent passport-size photographs of the student.
    • Original Caste Certificate (For B.C. Students).
  • A student who has passed the F.Y.J.C. Examination from a recognised junior College in Maharashtra or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto by the Board is eligible for admission to the S.Y.J.C. class.
  • A student who has passed the F.Y.J.C. Examination in Science or Commerce will be permitted to join the S.Y. J.C. class in Arts, if seats are available.
  • For admission to the S.Y. J.C. class, it is essential for the student to produce the following documents together with two attested copies of each :
    • S.S.C. Examination passing Certificate.
    • Statement of Marks of S.S.C. examination.
    • Statement of Marks of the F.Y.J.C. Examination.
    • School Leaving Certificate.
    • Eligibility Certificate in the case of those passing an examination other than that conducted by the Maharashtra Board.
    • Leaving Certificate from the last Junior College attended.
  • A student seeking admission to the Junior college will have to present himself / herself along with an application in the prescribed form, available in the college office, duly filled in and signed by him and endorsed by his/her parent / guardian. Admission to Xlth Std. class will be made as per the procedure laid down by the Education Department and the Management. No admission shall be regarded as granted unless authorized by the Principal and until the necessary fees are paid to the college office.
  • All admissions are valid only for one academic year and are required to be renewed by a fresh application in the prescribed form for every subsequent year of study in the college.
  • Normally, a student of the Junior College who has qualified himself/herself for admission to a higher class will be admitted after submission of the prescribed admission form and after payment of fees to the college office.

FYJC

  • Minimum Marks for passing in a subject shall be 35%.
  • Marks for theory and practicals in the subject where there are two parts shall be taken together and the total marks will be considered for a pass or distinction.
  • F.Y.J.C. students will be assessed as per the Board rules under the internal assessment system, in the A+B+C pattern :
    • A - Marks obtained in Two Unit tests of 50 Marks each.
    • B - Marks obtained in one Terminal Exam. out of 100.
    • C - Marks obtained in one Annual Exam. out of 100.
  • Marks obtained in a subject entered in the Annual Report card will be inclusive of A, B, and C and the average out of 100 will be shown.
  • An Examination in Physical Education will be conducted for F.Y.J.C. students and a grade will be allotted in the Annual Report Card.
  • There will be a compulsory project of 40 marks in environmental studies.

SYJC

  • Minimum marks for passing in a subject shall be 35%.
  • In a subject for which there are two papers, or one paper and one practical test, marks will be added together for a pass, credit or distinction.
  • There will be an oral examination of 20 marks in each language.
  • There will be a compulsory EVS project / field study for 40 marks.

The detailed programmes of the respective tests, examinations for F.Y.J.C. / S.YJ.C. showing the duration of each question paper and the number of marks assigned will be put up on the notice board from time to time. The pattern and duration of the tests / examinations will be the same as prescribed by the Board.

F.Y.J.C. students should note that they will be examined in both Theory and Practicals through Tests / Tutorials. Examinations and their performance in each will be taken into consideration while promoting them to the next class.

FYJC

  • There will be two Unit Tests in each subject, one per term.
  • There will be four tutorials in each subject, two per term.
  • There will be a Terminal Examination around the close of the first term.
  • There will be an Annual Examination around the close of the second term.

SYJC

  • There will be a Terminal Examination around the close of the first term.
  • There will be a Preliminary Examination soon after the completion of syllabus.

Application for following awards, scholarships, freeships etc. are forwarded by the college. Details regarding these scholarships will be displayed on the Notice board from time to time.

  • Students applying for Scholarship, free-studentship should note that the same are granted on the following conditions :
    • That the applicant is regular in attendance and is in accordance with the condition governing the respective Scholarship / Free-Studentship etc.
    • That his / her conduct and progress are satisfactory.
    • That he / she is not absent without prior permission.
    • That satisfactory evidence is produced with regard to the claim for Scholarship/Free-studentship etc.
  • Students are advised to apply for Scholarship/Free-studentship as per the programme to be notified, failing which they will not be able to avail of the same.
  • Students applying for above mentioned Freeships / Scholarship etc. should apply for the same within 15 days from the date of commencement of the term. Further, students shall acknowledge receipts of their application for Freeship / Scholarships.
  • The Student Mutual Aid and Talent Development Fund is utilized to extend library facilities to poor and needy students. The college will extend guidance with a view to improve employment prospects of the students. Special programmes for career guidance will be arranged.
