Placement & Career Guidance Cell

The commitment of a teacher towards the students also includes equipping the students to perform well in the competitive world. The Placement Cell and Career Guidance Cell of Shankar Narayan College aims to ensure that students have the information and skills necessary for an effective job search. Shankar Narayan College has an integrated Career Guidance Cell and Placement Cell. These Cells are sensitized to function all through the year generating placement and career opportunities for the students.

Objectives

  • Creating awareness among the students regarding available career options and helping them in identifying their career objectives.

  • Guiding the students in developing skills and job search strategies required to achieve their career objectives.

  • Identifying suitable potential employers. Arranging preplacement talks, seminars, presentations and workshops.

  • Organising activities like campus interview and off campus interview.

Activities

  • Co-ordinates career counseling and placement related activities conducted by various organizations.

  • The Cell invites various service providers like IT companies, prominent BPOs, Banks, Aviation sector, Management Institutes etc., to conduct recruitment drives, seminars, workshops and presentations on the jobs and career opportunities available for students.

  • Personality Development workshops on corporate culture, etiquette and leadership skills are held throughout the year.

  • The Cell disseminates information regarding the availability of jobs. The Cells have a separate notice board for display of notices regarding competitive examinations, Job Fairs, Education Fairs, various government and non- government courses.

The Committee is available to respond to student’s question and concern of all kinds. This may include advice on placement procedures, help with preparation of applications and resumes and practice for interviews. All advice is based on up-to-date placement statistics and an envisioned view of future educational and industrial trends.

  • Jetking, Borivali conducted a workshop on “Career Guidance in IT”, on 7th July 2018. Mr. Kamal Paliwal addressed the students on job opportunities available in the IT sector.

  • On 24th July 2018, EduBridge Learning Pvt. Ltd., Virar held an off campus three month training programme on ‘Retail Trading ’. More than 35 Final Year students participated in this CSR programme for NSDC- National Skill Development Corporation funded by TATA. Ms. Anjali Manve, Center Manager headed the programme. 12 students have been placed after the programme.

  • Flyhigh Aviation Academy, Andheri addressed the students on “Career Opportunities in the Aviation Sector”on 26th July 2018.

  • Mr Amol Shedge, Business Development manager ( BDM ) and also our ex-student working with Career Launcher, Andheri conducted an IQM – InQuizitive Minds Test for SYBCom and TYBCom students. Around 300 students took the test on 30th July 2018.

  • Mr. Stanley Mc Cunha, Director, Sky Infotech, Bhayander addressed the students on Tally. ERP9- GST, MS-CIT and Advance Excel on 30th July 2018. The session was very informative. Jobs

  • Mr. Kamal Paliwal from Jetking, Borivali organized a seminar on “In Day to Day Life: Tips and Tricks” for FYBCom students on 7th August 2018.

  • Ms. Payal Mukerjee, Business Development Head from T.I.M.E. Borivali conducted a workshop “How to face an Interview and participate in a Group Discussion” on 29th August 2018.

  • El Aviation Academy, Mira Road addressed the students on “Aviation, Hospitality and Travel Industry Related Career Opportunities” on 27th August 2018.

  • Techno Serve Skills Training and Placement Program, Lower Parel in partnership with JP Morgan Foundation and Citi Foundation organized a 21 day programme on “Building Youth Excellence through Employability Services and Technology Program”. This Youth Employability Program is framed for enhancement of employability and workplace skills of deserving youth. This CSR program for the final year TYBCom students was held from 12th November 2018 to 8th December 2018. 57 students enrolled for this Certificate Course. MsNehaAnand, Senior Specialist- Skills Training and Counselling, TechnoServe India spearheaded the program. This program will help the students to sharpen and improve their interview preparedness and help make informed career choices after their graduation. It will empower them with skills and attitude to enter the competitive workforce.

  • Mr. Raj Mhatre and Mr. Raj Joshi, Faculty from Rohidas Patil Institute of Management Studies (RPIMS) Bhayander motivated the final year students for higher studies on 25th and 27thSeptember 2018. The faculty gave information about the MMS course and cleared all the queries related to the same.

  • Mr Jenson M. E, Founder and a Motivational Speaker from Prochamps Training and Consulting Pvt Ltd, Mira Road spoke on Personality Development to FYBCom students on 16th January 2019.

  • A workshop on “Cyber Security & Ethical Hacking” was held on 18th January 2019 by SR Secure, Mira Road. Ms. ShifaCyclewala, CEO and Founder, MrRohitGautam, Founder and Senior Trainer conducted anexcellent session. The workshop was very interactive and informative.The students enjoyeda lot and learnt a lot.

  • On 22nd January 2019, Mr. Kamal Paliwal from Jetking, Borivali conducted the GPB Test for college students.

  • Ms. Deepika Sisodia, Zone Manager from Avon Cosmetics, Andheri and Ms.Nirmal Yallavati from Ankit Creations organized a Personality Development workshop on “Inner beauty and Outer Beauty” on 21st January 2018. The topics covered were Beauty Tips, Skin Care followed with Clean up Demo and Make Up Demo. The workshop was very informative and interesting. Certificates were distributed to the students who attended the workshop.

  • Mr. Raj Mhatre, Mr. Raj Joshi and other Faculties from Rohidas Patil Insitute of Management Studies (RPIMS), Bhayander addressed the final year students on 25th January 2019. They created awareness about the MMS course and guided the students on how to appear for CET.

  • Mr Atul Shirwadkar, Director and Mr. Hemant Gharat from Big Art Business Pvt Ltd, Thane conducted a seminar on “Career Guidance in Art, Media, and Entertainment Industry” on 25th January 2019.

  • Mr.Navin Panjwani and Mr.Dheeraj Purohit both Asst. Managers from IMS Learning Resources Pvt. Ltd, Borivali conducted an Aptitude Test for SYBCom students on 25th January 2019.

  • Mr. Hitesh Motwani, Faculty and Mr. Rajesh Pandit, Senior Marketing Manager from Times Pro, Andheri organized a seminar on “Digital Marketing”on 29th January 2019. TimesPro is an education initiative by The Times of India Group with an aim to revolutionize professional education in India.

  • TechnoServe Skills Training and Placement Program, Lower Parel in partnership with JP Morgan Foundation and Citi Foundation held an Off Campus placement drive on 19th January 2019. More than 42 students have been placed out of 57 students who had enrolled for the program. The completion of the program not only helped the students to make better career choices and build a strong career path but also boosted their selfconfidence.
    Students have been placed with Epicenter, Kotak Mahindra, Axis Securities, Asit Mehta, Policy Boss, Sitel and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. The Placement Cell wholeheartedly thanks MsNehaAnand, Senior Specialist- Skills Training and Counselling, TechnoServe India for successfully conducting the CSR progam. The college looks forward to a further collaboration next year.

  • The Placement Cell of the college organized a Mega Recruitment Drive by ICICI Prudential Insurance, Andheri on 31st January 2019. 337 students participated from 15 colleges in this Placement Drive. 56 students were selected after various rounds of Group Discussion and Personal Interviews. The event was led and coordinated by Senior Manager MsOrnikaShroffSenior HR, Ms. JoyaNabam HR and Ms. RishikaAgrawal HR.

  • Loksatta, one of the leading newspapers in Marathi under The Indian Express Group visited the campus for interviews in November 2018. 58 students were selected to work with Loksatta, Mira Road for Readership promotional activity for a period of 3 months and were eligible for an experience certificate. This activity encouraged the “earn while you learn” concept among the students. This not only added to their working experience but also fostered self confidence, self esteem and self reliance in them. The team was led by Senior Area Manager Mr. Subhash.   • Mr. Dharamendra Sharma from Krish Enterprises, Kandivali conducted a Campus Interview in the last week of January for students who were interested in doing survey work in Mira- Bhayander Projects. 6 students have associated themselves with Mr. Dharmendra to work as Surveyors.

  • On 1st February 2019 Mr. Nikhil Kanani, Manager and Mr. Dhiraj Singh, Manager-Sales from Hindustan Times Media Ltd., Elphinstone Road informed the students about job opportunities available with Hindustan Times. 6 students have enrolled for the internship program to get experience in sales and distribution.

  • Mr. Sunil Gadewale and Ms. Supriya Gadewale from SavitriBai Phule Education Trust, Thane conducted a 15 day workshop on “Mobile Repairing” and “Beauty Tips” in the month of February 2019. There was an enthusiastic response from the students. More than 60 students completed the course in mobile repairing and 19 students completed the course on Beauty Tips.

  • Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), Mira Road conducted a very interesting seminar on “Career Opportunities in the Animation Sector” on 11th February 2019. The students were very enthusiastic to know about Animation, VFX, Multimedia, Gaming and enjoyed the audio- visual session. Attractive prizes were distributed to the students who gave the right answers.

  • Mr. Shailesh Salaskar, Proprietor of Laxmi Book Enterprises, Mira Road and also our ex-student held an Off Campus Interview for vacation jobs during the months of March - June 2019. These summer jobs provide a handson experience to students in sales, inventories, public relations and practical knowledge of commerce stream.

  • eSkills Investment Banking Program, aCSR Initiative Program by eClerxand Nasscom Foundation and instituted by MindMap Consulting- Hyderabad was started for the students in the college from January 2019. Mr Sanjay Tiwari, HR Coordinator from MindMap Consulting addressed the final year students about the programme. He conducted an Aptitude test and held Group Discussion and Personal Interview with the students. 105 students qualified to enroll for the programme. The ongoing program is for 150 hours and covers domain knowledge related to curriculum for Investment Banking. The programme provides training in oral and written communication, problem solving, interview skills and other soft skills required to enhance the student’s employability. At the end of the training the students will undergo an assessment and be certified. Candidates who successfully complete the course will be linked to suitable employment opportunities through placement drives and job fairs.

  • Salexi HR Solutions Pvt Ltd., Mira Road conducted a Campus interview on 5th March 2019. Our Ex Student also the Team Leader of Salexi HR Solutions Pvt Ltd, MsMaya Hasabealong with Ms. Sneha Pandey, Senior HR Executive conducted the interviews. --- sat for the interview and –were shortlisted. 4 students were selected in the final interview to work as HR.

  • Mr. Vijay Anand, Program Lead from MindMap Learning, Hyderabad and Mr.Rohit Srivastav Placement Officer, NASSCOM FOUNDATION, Noida visited the college on 6th March 2019 to interact with the students undergoing the eClerx CSR programme.

  • On 15th March 2019, Mr. Chintan Sirija, CSR Head, eClerx and Ms. Nitasha Verma, Program Manager NASSCOM Foundation visited the college to meet the students from the Investment Banking Skilling Program.

  • Mr. Shaiju RG, State head- Donor Acquisition, World Vision INDIA, Andheri, conducted a Campus Interview on 7th March 2019. --- were selected to work with the organization.

  • NSDC (National Skill Development Council) under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE)has initiated a Mega Counselling Campaign by the name of ‘Skill Saathi’- with the view to counsel students about the Skill Eco System to make them aware of career pathways based on their aspirations and interest profiles. Mr. Sachin Saran, Project Coordinator from Yuva Vikas Society ( YVS ), the official Training Partner with NSDC registered more than 600 students of our college with Skill Saathi In the month of March 2019.

  • Hindustan Times in collaboration with Gillette conducted a Promotional Campaign, Personality Development workshop and an Aptitude Test on 12th March 2019. More than seven hundred students took the test. An Audio Visual presentation was held on “Grooming and How to appear for an Interview” for FYBCOM students. Complimentary Gillette Razors were given to all the students who took the test.

  • An Off Campus CSR Program based at Virar was initiated in the last week of March 2019. UNNATI , ‘Ekkadam, behetharkalkiorr ’, a CSR Program funded by Kotak Mahindra provides free training to Dropouts and economically weak students in Retail Trading, Banking, Computer Repair and Beauty Course.

  • Rohidas Patil Institute of Management Studies (RPIMS). The Times of India Team headed by Mr Vishal Srivastavconducted an On–Campus Placement Drive on 20th March 2019 for Second Year students.The Internship Drive named ‘ACCESS ( Acquiring Capability in Customer Engagement & Selling Skill)- Student’s Window to the Corporate World’. 46 students were selected to work as sales and marketing representatives to increase the readership of Times of India. The Placement cell wholeheartedly thanks RPIMS for conducting this wonderful drive.

  • On 26th March 2019, Acute Ratings & Research Ltd, Andheri, conducted an On-Campus Recruitment Drive. Ms Loretta Fernandes, Associate Vice President HR gave thePre Placement talks along with MrNikunjDube, Associate Vice President, Business Development. 90 students from 3 colleges sat for the interview and –were shortlisted for the final interview.Position Business Development Executive, On Site Officer

  • A Mega On-Campus Recruitment Drive was held on 28th March 2019 by Tech Mahindra, Andheri. Mr. Jasbir Singh, Lead HR and Mr. Shubham More HR gave the Pre Placement talk. 139 students from 6 colleges took the interview and 69 students were shortlisted for the job of BDS Business Development Service in Hotstar and IDEA Service based at Chandivali and at Make My Trip(Flights) and GOIBIBO(Hotels) based at Airoli. The final interview will be held in the month of May 2019. Of the 69 students selected, 35 students are eClerx traineeswho have undergone the CSR program and 34 are final year studentsfrom various colleges. The Placement Cell wholeheartedly thanks Mr. Rohit Srivastav from NASSCOM for organizing this Recruitment Drive of Tech Mahindra.

  •  MotilalOswal Securities Ltd, Prabhadevi conducted a Placement Drive on 3rd April 2019. MrChetan Shah, Vice President, Market Strategy and Product development gave the Pre-placement talk followed by Interviews. ----took the interview and 23 were shortlisted for the Final interview.MrJatinSavla conducted a second drive of Campus Interviews on 15th April 2019. --- students took the interview. The Final Interview will be held in the month of May 2019.

Shankar Narayan College of Arts and Commerce is one of the finest platforms for the students that aspire for a good job as soon as their graduation is completed.
